It was the 40th participation in the World Series for the New York Yankees with before 26 titles. Indeed, even the successful-spoilt Yankees had to overcome a longer hard haul: The last participation in the World Series dated back six years (2003), the last World standard title profit even nine years (2000). To come back successfully, the Yankees paid in 2009 a little less than in the year before in salaries, however, this year's 201.5 million US $ were still a league record. Only for the accesses C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Borer (both Pitcher) and Mark Teixeira were due yearly more than 50 million US $ to salaries.
